When the mind is bound, the elements are bound. When the mind is released, the elements are released without doubt. By the melting of the knots in the central channel, the dense physical frame becomes a radiant body of pure gnostic light.
— Mahasiddha Saraha (from The Dohākoṣa)
The spiritual marketplace sells enlightenment as a sudden, ground-breaking shift of perspective. But true liberation is a paradox: it means realizing the seeker on the path is not an autonomous entity, yet neither is it a mere optical illusion, as popular Advaita talk often implies.
It is exceptionally difficult to articulate what the self is, but without the self, there would not be self-liberation. The self-structure is not just the fundamental I-thought but a complex, deeply entrenched set of programming that has roots in the nervous system, brain, and emotional body. The insight there is no self is merely a beginning of a radical de-conditioning that turns the fabric of reality inside out, and clears out the system from pervasive obscuration (avijja).
The Unconditioned wakes up to itself, using the human body as a laboratory. While it is impossible to explain what the Unconditioned is, terms like Rigpa, the Absolute, and Shunyata are great as pointers for an experience beyond conceptual bondage. Words can conceptually reflect some of these processes, but the one who has undergone this secret, incomprehensible transformation knows the joke: the difference between the actual terrain and a mental understanding.
You don't find Rigpa; Rigpa is the primordial ground that shines through as the self-structure thins, acting like a benevolent solvent that systematically dissolves every reference point, programming, unconscious hook, and fetter that keeps the dualistic matrix running.
The Absolute is unborn and uncaused—an originless burst of spontaneous, self-liberating activity. It is the sudden, catastrophic realization that the entire universe is a self-luminous display, and that the human entity you thought you were was merely a dense, textural knot that the Absolute decided to untie.
When Shunyata enters a human system, it acts like a fire that eats its way through the nervous system. The intense projections, the head, heart, and gut knots, the nausea, the hot and cold chills, and the extraction of the remnants of the fetters aren't things happening to you. They are the raw energetic friction of the Unconditioned directly encountering the conditioned 'you'—burning away the karmic matter of automated machinery and transforming it into a gnostic body of transparent intelligence and fierce light.

Many modern spiritual seekers are deeply enamored with the concepts of alchemy, tantra, and transmutation. Yet, without genuine realization, this kind of fascination remains merely intellectual. The inert energy locked inside the physical conditioning remains tightly bound because the boundary of the 'I' is still holding it in place. Trauma, ancestral karma, and ego-defense mechanisms are simply inter-connected energy that wants to be liberated: a contraction and constriction within the field of emancipation. To unlock that energy and turn it back into pure aliveness, the container holding the contraction has to shatter.
The realization of the Absolute is not a static, comfortable destination, but a dynamic, spacious empowerment. Without the ego trying to manipulate, bypass, or defend against the conditioning, the frozen matter is finally left alone in the furnace of awareness. Because its nature is dependently arisen (Shunyata), the moment the holding mechanism vanishes, the energy naturally melts and self-releases: self-grasping mutates into a self-transforming mandala of shimmering aliveness.
Practically speaking, the rainbow body (ja-lü) is not just a miraculous phenomenon that happens at the moment of death; it is the somatic, physiological process of the physical body catching up to the great death of the self-structure. It spans the entire bridge between initial formless realization and the complete, cellular transmutation of karmic density into pure, radiant vital force: a beautiful and terrifying geometry of the dance. You can simply relax and appreciate the magnificent, causeless art of a dream that has woken up to its own empty nature.
